EXCLUSIVE: Red Bull’s Pierre Wache on the team’s 2024 – ‘We didn’t do an amazing job last year’

In an exclusive interview with Formula 1®, Red Bull’s Team Principal, Pierre Wache, opened up about the team’s performance in the 2023 season and their plans for the upcoming 2024 season. Wache admitted that the team didn’t do an amazing job last year and highlighted the areas they need to improve on.

Reflecting on the 2023 season, Wache acknowledged that Red Bull didn’t meet their own expectations. He stated, “We had high hopes for the 2023 season, but unfortunately, we didn’t perform as well as we had hoped. We made some mistakes and faced some challenges that affected our overall performance.”

Wache emphasized that the team has analyzed their shortcomings and is determined to rectify them in the upcoming season. He said, “We have identified the areas where we need to improve, and we are working hard to address those issues. Our goal is to come back stronger and more competitive in 2024.”

When asked about the specific areas they are focusing on, Wache mentioned the need for better car development and improved race strategies. He explained, “We need to enhance our car’s performance and make it more consistent. We also need to refine our race strategies to maximize our chances of success.”

In terms of driver performance, Wache expressed his confidence in the current lineup of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. He praised Verstappen’s exceptional talent and highlighted Perez’s valuable experience. Wache stated, “Max is an incredible driver, and we believe in his ability to deliver outstanding results. Sergio brings a wealth of experience to the team, and we are confident in his capabilities as well.”

Wache also discussed the team’s ambitions for the 2024 season. He emphasized their determination to challenge for the championship title and regain their position as the leading team in Formula 1®. He said, “Our ambition is to win races and compete for the championship. We want to be at the forefront of Formula 1® and set the standard for excellence.”

In terms of competition, Wache acknowledged the strong competition from Mercedes and other teams. He recognized the need to continuously improve and stay ahead of their rivals. He stated, “Mercedes has been a formidable opponent, and we respect their capabilities. However, we are focused on our own performance and will do everything we can to stay ahead of the competition.”

In conclusion, Wache admitted that Red Bull didn’t perform up to their own expectations in the 2023 season. However, he expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back and deliver a stronger performance in 2024. With a focus on car development, race strategies, and the exceptional talent of their drivers, Red Bull aims to challenge for the championship title and regain their position as the leading team in Formula 1®.
