Detroit Lions’ Cam Sutton wanted in Florida in connection with physical altercation

Detroit Lions cornerback Cam Sutton is currently wanted in connection with a domestic violence incident that took place in Florida. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for Sutton’s arrest earlier this month on one count of domestic battery by strangulation for an incident in Lutz, Florida, a suburb of Tampa.

According to Phil Martello, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, the department responded to a call for domestic violence in progress involving Sutton, 29, and a female around 5 a.m. on March 7. The victim sustained injuries that indicated an altercation had occurred, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant on the same day. The sheriff’s office has since posted a message on social media asking for help in locating Sutton, who is believed to be in Florida and not Michigan.

Despite attempts to contact Sutton, including tracking his vehicle through license plate readers, law enforcement has been unable to locate him. The sheriff’s office has exhausted all efforts to reach him, leading to the decision to post information on social media.

Court records reveal that on March 6, a hearing via Zoom took place in a paternity case involving Sutton and Kortnee Alexander. The following day, another hearing in the case was canceled. The Lions have released a statement acknowledging the legal situation involving Sutton and have stated that they will continue to monitor the situation.

Sutton, who signed a three-year, $33 million deal with the Lions last offseason, had a challenging first season with the team. Despite starting all 17 regular-season games, he struggled late in the season and in the playoffs against top receivers. The Lions have made moves to strengthen their secondary this offseason by trading for Carlton Davis III and signing Amik Robertson in free agency.

Sutton is scheduled to make $10.5 million this fall and carries a $12.68 million cap hit for 2024. His attorney, Jason Setchen, has not yet provided a comment on the situation.

In conclusion, the ongoing legal situation involving Cam Sutton has raised concerns within the Detroit Lions organization. The team is closely monitoring the developments and will provide updates as necessary. Sutton’s absence could impact the team’s defense, and his future with the Lions remains uncertain pending the resolution of the legal issues he is facing.
